An education to remake our world
Carta Maior the prestigious Brazilian leftist portal invited me to share a reflection on questions related to education in Latin America. This is the Sua Voz na Conjuntura project which in its first edition dealt with the defense of public education. I answered the call and shared some general ideas on the subject thinking about the difficult circumstances that Brazil currently faces and with the respect that the birthplace of Paulo Freire inspires in me without a doubt the most relevant contemporary pedagogue. This text comes from that source.What society do we want to build to confront the serious local and global imbalances of the st century?
The desirable society is not the impossible one of the Renaissance utopias but it is far from being the tangible one of our time much less any of its multiple fictions. The necessary one in my opinion is the one capable of differentiating the facts from their CXB Directory simulation the interaction of dependency the process of the contingent the aid of looting or the justice of capricious legal frameworks. Better said as in a school test the one that is capable of distinguishing what is true from what is false even if it costs you your bank balance or your life. Society at the level of its marginalized and helpless members rather than taking solace in the baseness of the elites.

What is needed is a society capable of interpreting the world around it in its qualities and meanings cries and silences links and implications from an ethical and comprehensive perspective prepared to see itself in the mirror of its actions with enough fortitude to recognize itself in harmonies but also in its profound instability.
A society that lies distant and that at the same time is at hand because the nation of the future is none other than the one constituted and built right now day by day with fortune and mistakes satisfactions and displeasures. What is done poorly at this moment will be paid dearly tomorrow but what is left undone will cost twice as much.
